HK3 – The Next Evolution in High-Performance Flight

This is not a revised HK2; it is an entirely clean sheet design, vastly different in performance and use. The HK3 will generally outperform an HK2 that is two sizes smaller.

Features:

  • Profiles optimized for key flight modes used in high-performance flight and competition.
  • Every profile in this wing is a different airfoil tailored for ideal span and chord lift distribution.
  • Internal line tab attachments for more direct load transfer.
  • True cell construction (instead of I-beam construction) for better shaping, sail tensioning, and reduced drag.
  • Split top surface trailing edge for ideal shaping and load distribution, resulting in an incredible flare and added stopping power.
  • Incorporated top skin logo for a sleek and attractive look.
  • No standard pilot chute attachment point (PCA) shipped with the HK3.
  • When new, the HK3 packs approximately half a size to one size bigger than the HK2. With use, it packs similarly.

Flight Characteristics:

In full flight, the HK3 flies very steep and fast—radically different from the HK2. It excels in the XRW environment with the speed and descent rate of an HK2 several sizes smaller.

  • The recovery arc is the longest of any wing we’ve produced, requiring the wing to be asked to recover as it holds a dive longer than previous versions.
  • The HK3 is tuned to reduce boosting, ensuring it won’t climb out of a competition course with correct technique and input.
  • Responsive and lively roll behavior with progressive inputs resulting in speed increases.
  • Ideal for piloting via harness and rear riser inputs, with intuitive feedback dialed for competition-level sensitivity.
  • The flare has improved finish and more stopping power than the HK2, helping pilots extract maximum lift during swoops.
  • Even with an upsize from the current HK2 size, most pilots will see a performance increase on the HK3. Ideal wing loadings on the HK3 are lower than for the HK2.

Opening Characteristics:

The HK3 was designed purely for performance with a goal of going as fast and far as possible. While we love the openings, this wing is not optimized for terminal deployments. It is built for performance and not for daily free-fall jumps.

  • Research and testing ensure acceptable performance in terminal environments, though it is not intended for daily use.
  • Think of the HK3 as a track-focused vehicle—excellent for performance but may reduce its service life when used outside the performance environment.

Production:

Certain aspects of manufacturing had to be streamlined to accommodate the complexity of the HK3 build and keep costs down. As a result, color options will remain limited.

  • Custom colors within our specified pattern are available for an additional $500, and may incur longer delivery times.
  • The HK3 is built completely out of our proven FT-30 fabric with 1.3mm Technora lines. This combination achieves the strongest line relative to size while maintaining a soft hand to allow for ease of packing and consistent deployments.
  • Demos will be available in most sizes.
  • The retail price is set at USD $4,645.00. References are required for both demos and purchases.
  • References are required for both demos and purchases. An additional review is required for the purchase of 60 and 64 sizes.
